Structural Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

The Structural Engineer is responsible for designing and drafting to meet the client’s requirements and expectations while conforming to appropriate Codes and Standards. The candidate must be a positive team player, personable, and a clear communicator. Attentiveness to clients’ needs is critical. Reports to: VP / Director Status: Full Time Location: Cleveland, Ohio

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the structural engineering design of projects assigned by the Project Manager.

  • Review project fee and scope of work.

  • Participate in project kick-off meeting with all consultants to discuss schedule, scope, and determine required information.

  • Assist the Project Manager by reviewing the project status, budget hours, and schedule. Identify any issues related to expended time vs. budgeted hours.

  • Notify the Project Manager when projects are approaching allocated/budgeted hours.

  • Assist with construction management in reviewing shop drawings and submittals during the project construction phase.

  • Follow client/firm quality assurance procedures.

  • Research applicable building codes, standards, and various industry products.

  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, design analysis, and construction cost estimates.

  • Perform construction-related services, including shop drawing reviews, response to requests for information, periodic construction site observation, and occasional specialized structural inspections.

  • Collaborate with architects and designers, and building contractors on the design and construction of projects.

  • Analysis and design of steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and light-gage structures.

  • Analysis and design of shallow and deep foundations.

  • Design of connections and construction details.

  • Framing plans, foundation plans, building elevations, and sections.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Structural Designer

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Internship or Co-op experience in structural design and drafting of buildings or other structures is preferred.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil/structural engineering from an ABET-accredited university.

  • Proficient use of a variety of software, including but not limited to Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam.

  • Possible use of a variety of software, including but not limited to, Sketch Up, Visual Analysis, RAM Structural, FTP programs/utilities, and Procore.

  • The ability to perform structural surveys of existing buildings anywhere in the country is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT registration.
