Structural Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Structural Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, and evaluation of building structures for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Working under the guidance of the Director of Structural Engineering or Structural Department Manager, this position supports project execution through technical design, coordination with other disciplines and the preparation of engineering deliverables. The Structural Engineer ensures work is completed in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, company standards, and established QA/QC procedures.
The Structural Engineer plays a key role in project execution by coordinating with clients, architects, contractors, and internal project teams. This position is responsible for managing assigned projects and engineering tasks, developing practical and economical structural solutions, supporting junior staff, and contributing to quality project delivery, client satisfaction, and successful project outcomes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review and evaluate project tasks assigned by the Director of Structural Engineering, Structural Department Manager, or Senior Structural Engineer.
Review project fee proposals, contracts, scope of work, schedules, and deliverables to understand project requirements and assigned responsibilities.
Participate in project kickoff meetings to review project scope, schedule, deliverables, required information, and coordination needs.
Perform engineering design and prepare calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and other technical documents for assigned projects.
Monitor assigned project scope, budget, schedule, and progress; communicate project status, schedule changes, resource needs, and potential issues to the Structural Department Manager.
Identify potential scope changes or add service needs prior to performing work outside the original scope.
Review shop drawings, submittals, and requests for information (RFIs) during construction and assist with construction administration services as required.
Research applicable building codes, industry standards, design criteria, and construction products to support accurate and code-compliant design solutions.
Follow quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures.
Maintain positive working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project team members.
Pursue continuing education to enhance technical knowledge, professional skills, and professional licensure.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Structural Engineering, Structural Department Manager, or Senior Structural Engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
·Three or more years of professional design experience in the applicable discipline.
Proficient use of a variety of software including, but not limited to; RISA, Tekla TEDDS, RAM Elements, RAM Structural Systems, Microsoft suite products
Proficient use of drafting software including AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Preferred Qualifications:
Engineer Intern (E.I./E.I.T.) certification or Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure, as applicable to experience level.
Experience with discipline-specific design software and construction administration.
Ability to perform site surveys nationwide
Physical, Cognitive and Mental Demands:
Work is primarily performed in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. This position requires periodic travel to project sites nationwide to perform engineering surveys and field investigations. Field activities may include walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs and ladders, accessing roofs, canopies, mezzanines, and other elevated structures, and working in varying weather and construction site conditions. The position requires strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, along with the ability to interpret technical information and manage multiple priorities.
