Designing the Human Experience:
Healthcare Spaces for the People

One of the greatest challenges designers and architects face is planning an environment for a hypothetical user they’ve never met. This problem is further emphasized in healthcare facilities, where additional levels of vulnerability are layered on top of an already existing variety of personal preferences and needs. Healthcare is one of the most complex markets to plan and design; from regulatory requirements and operational needs to complex spatial relationships and human factors.

The Life Stance waiting room has muted greens and plenty of texture with warm leather, wood floors and feature wall, and plants. The rooms was designed to feel semi private with bump-out walls and intentional seating orientation.

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty, Addiction, and Trauma by Providing Opportunity

Onyx Creative’s President, Mike Crislip, and Sue Tager both know each other from working with New Directions, an organization that provides mental health and substance abuse treatment for adolescents and young adults. Sue, who is the Site Director for New Directions, is also the Executive Director of The Hitchcock Center for Women. We called her one early, grey Cleveland morning to learn more about how The Hitchcock Center for Women helps recovering women with substance abuse issues and about her role as executive director.
